Try This Trend: Leopard Print

0 Comments 23 August 2012

Famed novelist Jackie Collins once said: “My weakness is wearing too much leopard print” and it’s a sentiment we, along with a slew of designers at the Resort 2013 shows agree with.

The print was catapulted to fame by Carmen Miranda in 1948 and has since been seen on Jackie Kennedy in the 60s, Joan Collins in the 80s and the Kardashians, Nicki Minaj, Michelle Obama and JLo in the past few years.

Designer Mara Hoffman said of the print: ““Even when I get printed out, I love going to a leopard. There’s a classic sexiness to it, but it doesn’t mean trashy, and can be translated in so many different ways. It can go from punk rock to Upper East Side conservative.”

Rebecca Minkoff agreed: “I think it’s a universal print. It just works on almost every person, so I don’t think it will ever go away. It’s like black.”

You can spend as much or as little as you want on your print, wear it head to toe or add a little animal accent with your accessories.

Don’t think you have to stick to the classic pallete either, try it in a variety of colours – blue leopard print jeans anyone?

We love a leopard print blazer, a silk blouse, skinny jeans and a killer heel. Liven the outfit up with a colourful bag and you’re good to go.
