Sen Style Hair Salon is a small but perfectly formed hairdressers in South East London.
It’s rather hard to find as the shop front is not at street level but don’t be put off by the fact that it’s above a mini market that sells everything from shoes to meat; the two are separate outfits and once you get upstairs, you forget all about your location.
Upstairs is very cosy; there are only a few styling stations so you have a very personal experience. I went in for a moisturising treatment, a trim and a blow dry. The salon use MIZANI and Redken products and work with afro and Caucasian hair (most of their customers have natural/relaxed/permed/afro hair).
Nina (the owner) started by priming my hair with MIZANI Supreme Oil before applying the Redken Butter Silk deep conditioning treatment, perfect for dry, coloured or frizzy hair. The treatment was left on my hair for 15 minutes under a dryer then rinsed out.
Before blow drying (she has a very gentle hand) she applied product from the Redken Smooth Lock range; leave in conditioner and a heat styling spray.
You can’t be in a hair salon without chatting to the owner and I was very impressed with Nina’s knowledge when it came to hair; we talked about the importance of knowing your hair/curl type and treating your hair accordingly, using the right types of oils on natural hair, keratin treatments (I’m considering it) and how to transition properly. She also knew everything there is to know about MIZANI; I was very impressed.
Although the treatment left my hair wonderfully smooth and soft, I think the Redken oils and serums were just too heavy for my hair. Because my hair is big and long people assume it’s thick but while I do have a lot of strands, they are actually quite fine and get easily weighed down by heavy products.
Don’t let that put you off though; Nina is a wonderful hairdresser, not too scissor happy and knows a lot about natural hair.
