Red Carpet Trend: Ladies In Black

0 Comments 25 June 2012

As much as we try (and we do) we find it really hard to stay away from enveloping ourselves in all black.

It’s chic, washing machine and figure friendly and you never have to worry about finding something to match. Seems we aren’t alone as a slew of celebs have been spotted in our favourite colour. We’re taking tips on how to (and not to) wear the colour and looking for ways to jazz it up:

Alicia Keys pours her awesome curves into this Azzedine Alaïa couture gown.

Although she is practically covered from head to toe, she still looks oh so sexy so steal her style by making your hair, accessories and statement lip do all the talking.

Leather jeans are a supermodel staple and Joan Smalls teams hers with neutral at the top and the bottom.

We have mixed feelings about leather jeans (if we had legs like Joan we’d wear them all the time but we don’t so we’re not) but Joan shows that they don’t have to look tacky.

Kim K was snapped in LA (in 70 degree weather) over the weekend in high end top to toe black.

She’s wearing Celine, Rick Owens and Balmain here but she is an example of too much black in the summer making you look like you’ve forgotten what season it is. Covet that Celine tote though!

Mary J uses texture to jazz up her Catherine Malandrino dress at the Rock of Ages premiere.

Lace (big or small) ruffles and pleats are a great way to add interest to an otherwise flat colour.

Mel B wore the most flattering outfit in existence at the X Factor auditions earlier this month.

The Stella McCartney dress costs a fortune but the optical illusion it performs makes it totally worth every penny.

Nicole Richie plays with texture and length in a black Emilio Pucci gown.

Beware of empire line dresses if you’ve the slightest hint of a tummy if you don’t want any ‘when is it due?’ type comments.

Zoë Saldana (who always looks perfect) plays with sheer panelling in a stunning Prabal Gurung gown.

See how the panels at the waist make her tiny waist appear even tinier?

Another Zoë sighting – this time in leather shorts.

Leather and summer aren’t two words that always go hand in hand but here she makes a pair of shorts and a black tee look amazing. Doesn’t hurt that both are Theyskens Theory.

Will you be wearing black this summer?
