Last week, we were lucky enough to be invited to a live web cast with make up maestro Bobbi Brown and we gleaned the following tips from her:
How to choose a good blush
Look at the colour of your cheeks after a particularly strenuous workout. That is the shade of red/pink you need your blush to be to give you a healthy, flushed look.
Choosing concealer
Don’t just go for something that covers blemishes, you want a product that corrects any uneven skin tone as well. A good concealer is a key product to stop you from looking like you’re tired (even when you really are).
The basics
Every woman should have the right foundation and a good moisturiser. They are the building blocks to having a polished look.
The 5 minute face
Bobbi believes that make up is not complicated; if you only have five minutes in the morning, try the following:
Moisturise your face
Apply a corrective concealer
Apply foundation
Fill in your brows
Line your eyes
Add blush to your cheek
Apply lip gloss
It really is that simple!
Choosing the right foundation
Foundation is one of those products you simply must try before you buy (unless you know your shade, and each brand works out their shades differently).
To find out if the shade you’re trying is right for you, test it on the side of your face and your forehead and if possible go outside. Have a friend and a mirror on hand to see if the colour blends seamlessly into your skin. If it does, you have found your colour.
Jourdan Dunn says Bobbi Brown foundation in 6.5 gives her skin the best coverage and that Bobbi Brown offers the best range of foundation shades for dark skin.
The ‘home face’ vs the ‘work face’
Often we have different make up for different occasions; what we wear to work is not what we might wear on a night out. To avoid taking your make up arsenal with you, simply put a bright lipstick, a shimmery eye shadow or coloured mascara in your bag to quickly take you from boardroom to bar.
We found Bobbi remarkably down to earth, unpretentious and warm. And boy does she know her make up! She’s a firm believer in beauty coming from within – eating right, exercising etc and really champions diversity with most of her products available for women of all races.
We were able to try the Bobbi Brown Buffing Face Grains (simply add water or cleanser to the grains and exfoliate the face) and found them wonderful in brightening up a sluggish complexion.
We also got the skinny on her latest book: Pretty Powerful – a collection of stories on what it means to be beautiful inside and out. She interviews people like Gabby Sibide and Estelle on what beauty means to them and when they have felt their most beautiful.
Are you a fan of Bobbi Brown products?
