What woman doesn’t want to know how to find the perfect pair of jeans?
It’s a quest we’ve been on for what feels like forever but after a brief chat with celebrity stylist Beagy Zielinski, we think we’ve cracked it.
If you’re wondering why you should take advice from Beagy Zielinski, it might help to know that her work has appeared in publications like Greek and Spanish ELLE, German Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar China. Her client list includes Tyra Banks, Pharrell Williams, Kelly Rowland and Toni Braxton.
We asked her how to find the perfect pair of jeans. This is what she said:
Once you find a brand or two that fit you well, stick with them! And of course the obvious tried and tested rules apply:
• If you have short legs, don’t buy cropped low rise jeans. A high waist and long skinny leg with a heel will elongate your legs.
Left to right – Topshop £40, Whistles £80, MiH £153.90
• If you have a larger hip, you should stay away from bell bottoms. Small, highly placed back pockets will make your bum look smaller.
Left to right: DKNY £34.19, Tommy Hilfiger £80, Diesel £150
• A square pocket that is angled more straight up and down is better suited for women who are pear shaped or who are looking to camouflage their round bum.
It simple but true. We remember Tyra Banks saying that once she finds a jean that gives good bum and hip, often the waist is too big (common among black women). She says she won’t sacrifice the good bum/hip those jeans are giving so she takes them to be professionally tailored so they fit her properly. We think it’s great advice that can apply to trousers, skirts and jeans.
When it comes to denim we are fans of the Levi’s Curve range, Zara, Primark skinny jeans (yes, really) and for high end we like Superfine and MiH. They are much pricier than the high street but they have washed very well and as we didn’t go for anything trendy (one black, one dark blue) they are items we have had for over five years that still look brand new. It helps that we bought them on sale at denim emporium Donna Ida so they were 50% off!
Left to right: Levi’s Curve £60, MiH £160, Zara £39.99
