Hair Ideas: Interesting Ponytails

1 Comment 02 October 2012

Scraping your back into a ponytail or bun has been the go to style for rushed women the world over.

But you don’t just have to put it in a hair band and be on your way; jazz it up with braids, buttons and bows. It might take you a couple of minutes extra in the morning but the results are definitely worth it.

Jessica Alba has the prettiest ponytail we have ever seen. From one side it looks like a usual side pony but from the back it’s like wow! This can work whatever your hair type or length.

Angela Simmons fishtail braid is a celeb fave (as seen on Jennifer Hudson) and usually needs quite long hair to get the required result. Fake your ponytail with some good hair extensions.

This sleek style as seen as the Jason Wu A/W show is great for bad hair days. Simply gel your hair back into a high pony and add an interesting hair band. Visit your local haberdashery store for some cool cut offs you can make into a hair feature.

Kerry Washington takes the ponytail to the red carpet. This requires a little more forethought as you’ll need to have set your hair in rollers if you want this volumised look. When you remove the rollers, don’t comb or brush your hair. Simply tease the curls into the required shape and gently place in a ponytail, pinning away any dangly bits. Perfect for a night out or even a wedding.

Models at the Laura Smalls show made an ordinary braid look anything but ordinary. Add coloured feathers to your plait for a nouveaux hippy vibe.

Zoë Saldana has a glamorous yet laid back ponytail on the red carpet. Curl your hair with a large barrelled tong, allow to cool and then pin up, adding volume at the crown. Set the look with a strong hairspray.

Hopefully these have given you some inspiration on how to take the ponytail from drab to fab. Will you be trying any?
