Fashion’s New Power List

0 Comments 07 September 2012

You used to be able to tell a person’s ranking in fashion by where they were seated at a fashion show – the most powerful on the front row and stragglers and hangers on far, far away at the back.

According to an article in today’s NY Times, that’s no longer the case. With the rise of social media and the explosion of celebrity worship culture, smaller fashion names have risen fast up the rankings.

The article lists who they consider to be the major players; make up supremo Pat McGrath, W Fashion Director Edward Enninful and of course, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss (would any fashion list be complete without Ms Moss?).

There are some new and perhaps surprising names: Girls star Lena Dunham, Harlem rapper ASAP Rocky (whose debut album isn’t even out yet) and the perennially well put together editor Shala Monroque.

Their list gets a little gushy at times – ‘Kim [Kardashian] moves clothes, in the way that any role model does. But really, she moves dreams’ – but it certainly makes for an interesting read. And it gets it 100% right when it says under a picture of Anna Wintour ‘The Queen’.

Take a look here.

Do you think any names should or shouldn’t be on there?
