Many moons ago I remember reading an article in Just Seventeen magazine (anyone remember that?) advising all women to own at least one Chanel lipstick. Now I see why.
Chanel Rouge Allure is my first Chanel purchase ever and now I’ve been lured into that luxurious world, I fear there may be no return.
I decided to try the new Chanel Rouge Allure in 104 Passion. I’m not a huge bright lipstick fan and bought my first red lippie – Mac Ruby Woo – earlier this year. I wear it occasionally but find it a little too matte and it sometimes feathers after being worn for a while.
With my complexion and the fact that I have red undertones, I found Chanel Rouge Allure in 104 Passion – a classic and glamorous, movie star red – suits my skin perfectly. If you’re a darker shade of brown like I am, it should work for you. Apply two coats for extra staying power.
When it comes to choosing the right red for you, Chanel makeup artist Rachel Goodwin advises: “I typically go with colours based on complexion rather than hair or eye colour. I know the rule has always been to match cool skin with cool shades and warm shades to warm skin tones, but I actually prefer the opposite approach. For a more powerful pout, try working against your skin’s natural undertone. If you have cool undertones, try a more orange-based red, and if you have golden undertones try a blue-based red.”
Chanel Rouge Allure is the king of all lipsticks. The packaging is sleek and sophisticated, even the case contains a special click, click technology (no swivel here thanks) and the lipstick is creamy – thanks to the Shea butter and canola oil – hydrating and vibrant.
It is the perfect red lipstick.
