Never one to stick with just primary colours, MAC is to launch 65 new nail varnish colours this year. We can barely name 65 colours!
The colours range from a glittery red called Sparks on Screen to Nocturnelle, a shiny black. MAC usually has nail varnish available in seasonal colour collections and has only eight shades in their permanent varnish range. Their reason for upping the nail ante?
According to their VP of global marketing they ‘support hundreds of fashion shows and…were starting to see an increased emphasis on nails over the last few seasons. Nails are the fastest-growing segment of U.S. prestige makeup. The category is up 67% and is currently a $32 million dollar business in prestige…Nail colour is an affordable indulgence and women continue to trade up in it.’

As the global financial markets spiral into meltdown, most of us are being a lot more careful where we splash our hard earned cash. We may not (ever!) be able to afford the latest Celine tote but we can afford a tenner on a new varnish.
The new shades will be available in the US next month and internationally from September.
