Toni & Guy Regents Street were crowned winners of the 2012 Mizani Afro Catwalk Look Award on Monday night.
Mizani is L’Oreal’s range for afro, mixed and curly hair and winning the award brings high profile industry exposure, creative editorial shoot opportunities and respected trade recognition for Toni & Guy Regents Street.
Toni & Guy night not be the first name that comes to mind when thinking about where to go to get your hair ‘did’ but as we reported here, the chain of salons are used to dealing with afro hair in its various states and well worth a visit if you are after a good haircut.
The winning team had to create a look on a model of African / Caribbean descent that captured a key Autumn/Winter 12 catwalk trend. Their look was inspired by the 1940s trend of victory rolls which was created with a softer, more modern finish to suit the model’s natural hair texture. The hair colour was inspired by Henry Holland and Roberto Cavalli A/W 2012 using strong colouring and shading out to pastel tones.
Judges Rhian Benson, Alison Husband, author of The Afro Hair & Beauty Bible, session stylist Eugene Davis and stylist Vernon François said they ‘were really pleased with the…TONI&GUY Regents Street Team. They executed the brief and understood the Mizani products, the colour application and the texture of the hair. It also clearly conveyed fashion and editorial – a very stylish, on trend look with a confident model, it embodied everything.’
